Ivy Energy Solutions have developed a product called "PowerWarden" that enables companies to save money on their utility bills and reduce their carbon footprint. The product works by identifying which PCs have been left on unecessarily and switching them off.
Simply Spreadsheets were asked to improve the auditing tool which would show clients the financial and enviromental benefits of PowerWarden.
The Challenge
Ivy Energy Solutions already had an existing auditing tool that showed clients the benefits of their Powerwarden product. By entering in information about their circumstances e.g:-
No of computers
Power consumption of each computer
Cost of electricity
The hours worked per day
it was possible to work out the utility savings that could be achevived by using Powerwarden.
However, the client wanted to improve the auditing tool so that it had the following additional features :-
The tool showed the additional savings that could be acheived by staff leaving their PCs on when they were on holiday
It allowed for the fact that many offices had seperate monitors and base units - both of which wasted electricity
The outputs were graphical rather than just factual
The Solution
Simply Spreadsheets worked from a specification produced by Ivy Energy Saving Solutions to create the new tool. This allowed the user to enter the following additional details :-
No of monitors
Average no of days that staff were sick in a year
No of working weeks
The tool also allowed for different types of premises (schools, government buildings and private sector organisations).
The system also showed the outputs graphically :-
A pie chart of where money was being wasted (computers being left on overnight, at weekends etc)
A comparison of the cost of buying Powerwarden against the money wasted on electricity

Customer Testimonial
“I hired Kaps to produce a complicated energy audit and quotation engine for our IT network product, PowerWarden. He grapsed the project immediately, talked me through the options and delivered quickly. Furthermore, and unusally for a project of this type, there was very little de-snagging."
