For a particular client, they were engaged to see how a set of approximately 50 terms featured across three different search engines. This task was done periodically – but they needed a way of summarizing the activity so that they could see how a particular phrase was performing over time. Their current solution did not permit this.

Reconciliation of independent spreadsheet workbooks
Their existing solution was a series of independent worksheets that captured the search rankings of key search phrases.
Increased frequency of data input
Simplyspreadsheets realized that their client needed first to change the way that they recorded the information. Previously they captured the ratings on an adhoc basis. However the information was now obtained on a weekly basis.
Categorisation and Simplification
Simplyspreadsheets improved the original tool so that each months information was recorded in a separate Excel worksheet. Each worksheet was then labeled with the relevant month name. The average search position for the month was then calculated. Additional summary tabs that collated the information for each month. However the system was “smart” that as new monthly tabs were added they fed through automatically into the summary tabs.
The solution also showed the information graphically.

Turned data into actionable information
GWA marketing are now able to inform their client on the position of key phrases across 3 search engines. They can see how the positioning change over time and view this information graphically.
